In 1892 Frank W. Striemer and his family emigrated from Germany to the United States. They settled in Fairmont, Minnesota. On September 5, 1911, at the age of twenty-two, Frank Striemer founded the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Alpha. The Bank has survived and thrived throughout the years. Today the Bank is still owned and managed by the founder’s family. It is one of the few independent banks in the state that has been continuously owned and operated by the founder’s family. The daughter of the founder Helen Striemer Meium has been president of the bank since 1992. Harlow K. Meium who was president for 25 years is Senior Vice President and the Chairman of the Board. Two of their four children are the third generation of the founder’s family to take part in the management of the Bank. Paul H. Meium is Chief Executive Officer and Cashier and has been with the Bank since 1982. Evangelane J. Meium is Vice President and has been with the Bank since 1990. The Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Alpha is a full service locally owned family bank.
